To have your profile photos verified, you need to send a picture of your face from your webcam to Fling. To start the process, you need to edit your Fling profile and then click on the "Verify Photos" button. At this point, with your permission, your webcam will take your photo and be uploaded to Fling. Searching and Matching
Fling.com is primarily focused on searching and has little to offer in terms of automated matching.
Searching
Like other casual hookup dating sites searching is a big part of Fling.com. There are many options to choose from and all can be found under the Search menu found on the top bar. The first menu item "Search Members" includes 3 search tabs for Basic, Advanced Search, and Username. Basic Search allows all members to search based on Sexual Preference, Gender (including couples, and Transsexuals), Age Range, and Location. You can also specify members who are online now, currently video chatting, has verified photos, and who has been verified by SMS/Text. Advanced Search includes all the Basic Search options plus the ability to search on the other parts of the profile including a text keyword search along with Interested In (which is the type of relationship the member is looking for including Friends with Benefits, Threesomes, Online Flirting, etc...). Both Advanced Search and Username search does require a paid Gold membership to use.
Once you have performed a search, your selected search options will be shown along with a row of Featured Members. This will be followed by a list of members that match your search. Depending on the size of your screen (i.e. laptop or phone) the members will be listed in a double or single column. Each member listed includes their main profile photo followed by a profile summary. The profile summary includes their username along with their age, location, and if they have been active online in the last 2 weeks. It also includes the gender they are seeking and what they are interested in doing. Each profile also lists how many photos the member has uploaded. Any profile displayed on Fling may have 1 or more of the following icons which indicates certain things:
- Yellow Lightning Bolt Icon: Are Gold members who are currently online and being featured
- Blue Check Mark Icon: The member has verified their photos
- Green Circle Icon: The member is currently online and active
- SMS Text Bubble Icon: The member has verified their account with their phone via a SMS Text message
Each search result also can be sorted by Distance, Last Login, Photo Count, and Most Popular. With each profile listed you can click on the main photo to visit their profile. You can also Like their profile, send them a Regular or Quick message, Favorite their profile, and enable Notifications for the member (which will appear in the Activity Center).

Matching
Fling will send you automated matches weekly via email. These matches are new users who recently joined Fling and live near you (in the same city). They are based on your own preferences. Nothing really beyond that appears to go into the matching algorithm, but that is okay since the Fling search features are very robust. Plus, half the fun of hooking up through an online service is searching and looking through all the profiles.

In 1996, just when the internet was becoming popular, Fling.com was launched by Erotica On-Line which by 1997 had changed its name to EOL Communications. The hardware needed to facilitate this amount of internet traffic included over 500 web servers and 100+ database servers. Software wise, there was 8 million lines of code (including HTML, JavaScript, PHP, C, etc...), over 5 TB of database data, and a whopping 400 TB of actual files. By 2017 Global Personals Media Inc had updated their company name to Global Personals LLC and had more than 150 employees. The company is headquartered in Miami Beach Florida and has offices in Baltimore, and New York as well.
