Social Links have become a huge part of the Persona series, and they’re back in Persona 3 Reload with a few updates that weren't in the original game or FES. There are new activities, events, and voice-acted lines this time around, so this guide will fill you in on how Social Links work in this remake.

We’re providing general info here to introduce – or re-introduce – you to Persona 3’s Social Link system. If you’re looking for details for specific characters and their Arcana, head over to their individual character page. We've listed each link below.

What Are Social Links?

Social Links are, essentially, your relationships with various characters throughout the game. You’ll be given the opportunity to hang out with party members and other NPCs in casual settings, which often results in the creation of new Social Links. These links are measured in Ranks that increase from Rank 1 to MAX Rank 10.

Establishing relationships with as many characters as possible is the best way to unlock new Social Links. Leveling up certain links even leads to unlocking new ones, as some characters will introduce you to other important people.

How to Increase Social Links

Maintain the relationships you’ve created to increase your Social Links. You’ll periodically receive messages from your links, inviting you to participate in unique events or activities. Answer these requests and take time out of your day to see these characters to earn points toward increasing their Social Link levels.

If the game tells you that you “might grow closer” to a character before initiating their hang-out event, it means that their Social Link is about to rank up. If you don't see this message, you'll still earn points that guarantee your next hangout results in a rank-up.

During these Social Link events, you should always try to choose the correct dialogue options to give your relationships another added boost.

Whenever you choose the correct dialogue option in a Social Link event, a golden music note will appear above your head. The number of notes that appear is equal to the number of points you're receiving for that Social Link.

When you decide to spend time with one of your Social Links, be sure to have a Persona with their matching Arcana in your lineup – this will give you a boost, allowing you to become closer to that person.

So, for instance, if you choose to spend time with Kenji, always have a Magician Persona with you to speed up his Social Link level-up process.

You can also choose to take Koromaru out for a walk, but that's the least reliable way to raise your Social Link points. When you take him out, you may run into a random link and earn points, but there doesn't seem to be a way to choose which character you run into.

Social Link Rewards

Social Links affect your results when fusing Personas. Whenever you create a Persona that has the same Arcana as one of your Social Links, it will gain bonus experience. So, if your Social Link Rank for an Arcana is high, Personas you fuse of the same Arcana will gain a ton of bonus EXP.

The other major reward for increasing Social Links is the item each character gives you for reaching their MAX Rank 10. Whenever you reach the highest rank for a Social Link, they'll give you a unique item that allows you to fuse and create the highest level Persona for their respective Arcana.

For example, Mutatsu gives you the Reserve Tag at MAX Rank 10, allowing you to fuse the highest level Tower Persona, Chi You.
